There are many types of business hosting available. Which is best is likely to come down to a number of issues related to the nature of the business, the purpose of the website, and the likely amount of traffic.
Shared Hosting
Shared hosting is the most basic type of hosting and also the cheapest. With a shared package your business will share web space with the hosting companies’ other customers. This can cause some problems. For example, you are sharing bandwidth with them and there will only be a certain amount available, so the more they use the less there will be available to you and vice versa. With business hosting there is not much flexibility. Whether it is the right option for you depends on whether of not the limitation are likely to provide a problem. If not then it could be a good choice as it is inexpensive. It is more likely to be used by start-ups with small websites and few visitors.
Dedicated Hosting
Dedicated hosting is the complete opposite of shared hosting; instead of sharing a server you have one to yourself, a dedicated server. This server is only used for your website and you have full control. You will though, need the expertise to run the server or you will need to employ someone to do it for you. Dedicated hosting is unsurprisingly more expensive than shared hosting because you will need to buy a whole server, but if you have the requirements it is worth it. You are much less likely to run into trouble if you have an upsurge in traffic to your website. Larger businesses whose website is important to their success are more likely to opt for dedicated hosting.
Managed Hosting
Managed hosting is basically dedicated hosting run by a hosting company. You have you own server, will all the advantages that go with this, such as plenty of web space and your site not being affected by other sites. However, it is managed by the hosting companies’ experts. This is likely to limit the potential problems of hosting your own server. This does further increase the cost though.
Colocation
With colocation you have your own server (as with dedicated hosting and managed hosting) but you store it at a data centre. You rent rackspace from them and keep the server at their premises. They provide the hardware, control the temperature and take care of security, while you provide and look after the server. This has some of the advantages of managed hosting (such as not having to pay for the necessary infrastructure) while keeping the advantages of a dedicated server (having control). Unlike hosting you own server though, you may have to travel to update the server and it is more expensive than this (but cheaper than managed hosting).
Cloud Hosting
With cloud hosting there are a series of servers that you can use as and when you need to. You can gain access to these servers immediately when it becomes necessary and pay accordingly. When you do not need them, you won’t pay for them. This is for those who may only require one server normally but at times require more. It is like taking more servers when you need them and handing them back when you don’t. This is excellent for those that have an influx of business at certain times of year, and therefore a surge in website traffic. A good example of these are Christmas or summer based businesses. In these cases cloud hosting is preferable to paying for several servers all year round. If several servers are necessary most of the time though, it is more expensive than dedicated hosting.
Virtual Private Server
Hosting with virtual private server, or VPS, is where servers are split into several separate sections. In some ways it is like having you own dedicated server but without having to pay for an entire server. It is like having a mini server. Hosting is therefore not affected by other sites in the same way as shared hosting. It is smaller so only useful for business that do not receive too much traffic.

To have a website, you need web space on a server. A web host provides this space so you are the proud owner of active online real estate. But what is reseller hosting and how can it mean profits for you?
As an online entrepreneur, you realize Internet businesses are constantly opening, growing and changing. A resellers is a person who sells web space on someone else’s server. In essence, you are a middle person. With so many people creating websites, there are serious profits to be made with reseller hosting.
You simply create your own website to offer web hosting services. Clients can get a domain name and start websites on your hosting service. You are not responsible for maintaining servers because you are reselling web hosting services. As a reseller, you appreciate profits without having to deal with the detailed technical issues.
Hosting resellers can sign up as an enom reseller to receive domain registrations at a discounted price. You can then offer domain registrations to your own customers through a master billing system or by creating your own domain registration turnkey website.
So how can you begin your own reseller hosting business? Here is a simple guide to get started:
- Select an easy-to-use platform and control panel for your hosting accounts.
- Choose a reliable web hosting company with outstanding support for your reseller account.
- Set up your own hosting plan and determine the prices you want to charge based on services you offer and the prices charged by the competition.
- Create a business website with a navigable design featuring your new web hosting enterprise.
- Make sure your website is ready for business with a merchant account, payment gateway and SSL certificate for complete security.
- Set up customer service options such as a help desk.
- Set up a billing system.
- Create a welcome email that will be sent to all new web hosting clients to confirm their user name and password along with a confirmation of the plan details.
- Advertise your new reseller hosting business so you can make profits.
The reseller hosting business is one of the hottest, most profitable industries on the Internet today.

VPS, which stands for virtual private server, is also known as a virtual dedicated server, or a VDS. Basically, this is a system in which parts of a computer mainframe are sectioned off into multiple servers. This would allow each section to operate as if it were a dedicated server. These parts can have their own operating systems, can be independently rebooted, and can give the appearance that they are running their own virtual machine. This practice was fairly common a few years ago, but has since gotten popular again for a couple of reasons. Mostly the development of certain virtualization software has called for a resurgence in VPS, and so it is becoming popular once again.
VPS hosting is sort of a middle ground between shared hosting and dedicated hosting. See, shared hosting is Web hosting in which many websites are stored on the same server. Dedicated hosting, however, is Web hosting in which each company can rent its own specific server. Since they are the only business on that server, they have complete control of it. This is more costly than the extra-cheap rates available for shared hosting, but it is also a lot more serious than shared hosting in terms of storage capacity, bandwidth, CPU time, Ram, and disk space.
VPS hosting is sort of in the middle. It is not shared hosting, because virtually each company is renting their own independent server. However, it is not really dedicated hosting either, because several websites might be housed on one server that is split up into several pieces. As stated before, these pieces can operate completely independently of each other, but are still in the same mainframe. So, in a way, VPS hosting gives you all of the benefits of a dedicated server (minus some of the larger resource limits) with a much cheaper cost.
Finding a company that can provide you with VPS is sort of tricky at first, but you will soon find that many of the more popular Web hosts are into this type of Web hosting. Of course, you will want to research them just as if you were looking for a shared host or even a dedicated Web host, because even VPS is not entirely fool-proof. With any luck though, a VPS can help you to bridge that gap. It can get you out of a shared server until you are ready to make the leap to a dedicated server.

“Cloud” is a marketer’s dream buzzword; they’ll tag it to just about anything to get you to buy into it. Hosting companies in particular like to advertise cloud hosting; it seems to be a redundant, affordable, and scalable hosting alternative to cloud hosting traditional hosting solutions.
So is it?
In a word: yes. Cloud hosting can be a very economical solution to traditional hosting solutions, especially if your company plans to grow aggressively in the next few years. Using the cloud adds redundancy while still not being too expensive, and acts and functions just like any regular server you might employ while having the tools in place to scale easily and affordably.
As an example, we can look at Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud. Amazon’s EC2 is a very affordable and scalable system for hosting your servers. Amazon’s Cloud is priced per hour; you’re billed only the amount of time you use the server. Let’s assume that you use a Large Instance (virtual dual-core, 8 GB of RAM) 100% of the time with 2TB of data in and out. This will price to about $744 a month; an equivalent package from Rackspace, including bandwidth and hardware specs, costs $769 a month; you are saving $25 a month just by using Amazon.
The cost savings, however, aren’t the only benefit to a cloud: cloud services are equipped with load balancers, automatic scaling, and other tools to help you scale easily. Many of these hosting solutions have scripts and automatic alerts to bring new instances online as you need them, or to allocate new virtual nodes as required. These measures are generally very easy to implement and save a great deal of planning and hassle; instead of looking ahead and requisitioning servers you may not end up needing, you don’t waste any time or space on the rack. Additionally, cloud servers you never have to use more than you need: instances or nodes can be turned off or on depending upon usage and need.
That said, however, cloud hosting is not a magical panacea or cure-all, and it is true that it’s not 100% foolproof. The recent massive outage of Amazon’s EC cluster in Virginia is evidence of this, as the failure created some latency and connectivity issues for several hours. The outage happened overnight and most systems were responsive and fully operational by morning, but it is a fact of computing that these sorts of downtimes happen. Cloud hosting can in theory be more resilient than regular hosting, but it is subject to outages just like the rest of the IT world and you can’t ever guarantee 100% uptime.
In spite of this, however, I can’t help but recommend cloud hosting. It’s cheaper, amazingly scalable, and as reliable as many hosting companies out there; for those looking to switch up their hosting packages, I would encourage you to give cloud hosting an honest look and not just dismiss this one as a corporate buzzword!

Many times those that are relatively new to web hosting terminology stumble into some confusion in their quest for a good web hosting plan. One of the major sources of this confusion may simply come down to what is what where web hosting plans are concerned.
In this article I will talk about three different types of web hosting and their differences. These types are shared web hosting, dedicated server hosting and virtual private server. They mostly vary wildly in price and altogether fill different needs as far as hosting plans are concerned.
Shared web hosting is a term used to refer to when a hosting company puts websites from many different users on one server. Every user is usually given some limit to the amount of resources their site is able to consume. When several sites on the same server get busy or a script on one site consumes extra resources the server can bog down, slowing your site.
Most shared hosting plans are very cost effective and if you get a good hosting company you may be able to avoid having your site bogged down by having too many users on one server. Many shared plans can be had for under $10 a month and come packed with features and possibly even free domain registrations.
Dedicated server hosting is the most expensive web hosting of the three. Instead of sharing a server with other users you are in effect renting an entire server for yourself. Usually, all of the resources of the server are at your disposal. Many times hosting companies give you several options for the type of server you can rent and the operating system it runs.
Dedicated servers are for either bigger sites or for the webmaster who has 200 web sites and is tired of paying for 200 shared hosting accounts. Shared or virtual private server hosting accounts usually can handle personal or small business sites.
A virtual private server in essence is a hybrid of a shared web hosting account and a dedicated server. Software on the server is able to break it down into multiple “virtual” servers. The effect is basically like having several servers on the same machine. You would be paying for one of these virtual servers.
Virtual dedicated servers allow you the flexibility of customizing your server settings as if you were renting a dedicated server but since you are actually sharing a server with other users you pay much less. Virtual private server plans are usually priced just a bit higher than shared web hosting.
When you search for hosting do whatever research you need to do to pick the plan that’s right for you. There are thousands of sites offering quality information about web hosting that will help you to fill in any gaps in your knowledge and enable you to make the best possible decision.
Many hosting plans seem to offer the world on a string for a quarter. That’s fine and all but what happens when they cram several hundred busy accounts on one server and your site loads 30kb of HTML in 10 minutes on a DSL connection?
There may actually be many different hosts that can be right for you. Whichever you pick will come down to your requirements for resources like bandwidth and storage space, your requirements for features like PHP and/or ASP, and your requirements for price and level of support. Have fun.

The Internet has been a medium that has been used by thousands to create wealth. One of the more popular means of making money is in the web hosting industry. Many have done so by being a web host reseller. It is a great way to make serious money or side income if you are doing this part time. The advantage to being a reseller hosting is that you can use the resources that you have for yourself and the remaining resources that you do not need can be sold for a profit. Like any other business ventures, you will face competition from others so you would need to find ways to gain a competitive edge over them.
One of the key factors to success in the reseller hosting industry lies in the branding of your hosting plan. It is important that your branding portrays a good image about you. It should be able to gain the customer’s trust while portraying professionalism. Most customers will lose faith in you if they think that you are merely a middleman reselling your hosting package. As most middlemen are only concerned about earning commission and thus do not place any importance on the customer’s welfare. Customers will usually rather spend a bit more on a plan offered by a proper company rather than from a middleman who may not offer top notch customer support. Therefore, you should brand your business in such a way that it instils confidence and shows professionalism.
Like any other businesses, you will need a target market. Usually, the biggest potential target market will be people who are new to web hosting. They usually do not have any experience in web hosting previously and may be looking for one for the first time. As they do not have much experience in web hosting, you could attract them by offering plans that are user friendly. One of the ways to do so is by including web design in the plan; this way you save them a lot of time and hassle figuring out a web design. To ensure that these new webmasters notice your promotion, you should market your plans aggressively at places that they may visit such as forums, Facebook, chat rooms, web hosting directories, and blogs.
You could also try to market your plans to potential offline customers. You could try spreading the news via word of mouth. You could try approaching small businesses or individuals at your local town and tell them how reseller hosting could benefit them by opening new opportunities that previously weren’t possible. If you are able to tap into this potential market, you would find yourself rather successful in the reseller hosting industry.
If you want a reliable web hosting, there is nobody else who can do a better job than this Joomla Hosting. Why? It is not only about their 99.9% uptime. They are much more than that. You should read more about the host.

Many new ideas and products are emerging in the market and customers on the other hand have become too well known with the computer products and are conscious to gain knowledge about the newer products. This computer literacy has made the minds of businessmen that they are unable to run their business without the use of computer related equipments.
This computer literacy of businessmen; whether web based or other firms, has actually given birth to the cheap dedicated servers, just to make the business related tasks easier for the businessmen in a very friendly way.
